Cruise News Digest–August 11, 2024

Norwegian Encore will be receiving some extensive updates during her two-week dry dock later this year. She will feature two new three-bedroom suites, 24 new balcony staterooms and two club balcony staterooms. Cagney’s Steakhouse and Teppanyaki will be expanded, and she will have a new adults-only area. 

Norwegian Cruise Line is also expanding its Military Appreciation Program to include active members, veterans and the dependents of the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Coast Guard. The NCL Military Appreciation Program has nearly 200,000 registered members with more than 150,000 members having booked a vacation with the cruise line.

Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Treasure was floated out to fireworks and the ship’s mouse ears shaped horn playing “When You Wish Upon A Star.” She is on schedule to be handed over to Disney Cruise Line before her maiden 7-night Eastern Caribbean sailing on December 21, 2024.

Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas is getting an upgrade. She will receive more than $100 million in renovations. The renovations will be complete before her European summer season which begins April 2025. 

Seabourn’s ultra-luxury purpose-built ship, Seabourn Venture, will sail an additional Antarctica expedition voyage in March 2026. Between November 2025 and March 2026, Seabourn will have two ships, Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit, offering 11-, 13-, and 21-day sailings to the Great White Continent.

 Princess Cruises will begin offering MedallionNet Max within its Princess Plus and Princess Premier packages. MedallionNet Max is an advanced level of onboard WiFi that will prioritize access to the highest quality and bandwidth available. Guests will still be able to purchase MedallionNet Classic a la carte at the same price.
