Disney Cruise Line Announces Fleet Expansion

Saturday, August 10, 2024, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences announced that Disney Cruise Line will be expanding its fleet by four new ships between 2027 and 2031. The announcement was made at Walt Disney Company D23 Showcase.

Disney Cruise Line is currently sailing five ships–Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream and Disney Wish. Four ships are in the works–Disney Treasure (2024), Disney Destiny (2025), Disney Adventure to sail from Singapore (2025), and a still unnamed ship to sail from Japan in 2029. With the four new ships, that will bring the Disney Cruise Line fleet to lucky number 13.

No details were revealed about the ship itineraries, names, designs or even the builder. However, D’Amaro, along with Thomas Mazloum, president of New Experiences Portfolio and Disney Signature Experiences, did remind D23 attendees that Disney Cruise Line has something for everyone and the cruise line intends to continue to position itself as a leader in cruising.

“Disney Cruise Line is consistently the top-rated cruise line for families because it offers something for everyone. Expanding our fleet gives more people, in more parts of the world, the opportunity to experience a vacation at sea like only Disney can provide,” said D’Amaro.

Mazloum said, “Disney Cruise Line is a shining example of the diversity and breadth of experiences that make up the Disney Experiences portfolio – bringing together our signature Disney service, storytelling and innovation. Our growing fleet will further strengthen Disney Cruise Line’s position as a leader in family cruising.”

D’Amaro also announced Disney Destiny will showcase a new stage production of “Disney Hercules.” He shared more details about “Disney the Tale of Moana” that will debut on Disney Treasure. The show will feature the largest puppet ever produced for a Disney Cruise Line show–a fifteen-foot-tall Te Kā, the lava-wielding antagonist of Moana.
