Cruise News Digest—September 17, 2023

Welcome to the weekly Cruise News Digest. Here you can catch up on the past week’s cruise news and all things La Lido Loca

Let’s dive in!

Disney Cruise LIne announced the name of a new cruise ship as well as its new destination. Global Dream, which Disney Cruise Line acquired from the Genting Hong group has been renamed Disney Adventure and will be sailing from Singapore, serving the Southeast Asia market. Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Signature Experiences says this will be Disney Cruise Line’s, “biggest adventure yet.” Disney Adventure will debut in 2025.

Carnival Cruise Line and the Bahamian government celebrated the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence. Guests aboard Mardi Gras enjoyed a special Junkanoo experience as they joined in on the festivities while she was docked in Nassau.

In what classifies as news you don’t hear often, Aurora Expeditions Ocean Explorer ran aground in Greenland while she was exploring a remote area of the Arctic. The 206 people on board were literally “stuck at sea.” Thankfully, no one was injured, the ship was not in immediate danger and officials worked together to free the ship as quickly as possible.

More cruises were disrupted this week as Hurricane Lee swept up the east coast. Multiple itineraries were altered, ports were skipped and some cruises were cut short in an effort to keep everyone out of harm’s way. The JJASON months are known for being hurricane season so this is not new news, but stay aware and in touch with your travel agent or cruise line for possible changes to your cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Luminosa set sail on her 30-day Journeys cruise on Thursday, September 15, 2023, after completing her season in Alaska. The 30-day transpacific, repositioning cruise is sailing to Brisbane, Australia where she will homeport for the summer season.

Royal Caribbean International provided a first-look at their first adults-only escape on the cruise line’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. Hideaway Beach is opening January 2024 along with the debut of Icon of the Seas. There will be 22 ships sailing from 9 different port visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay in 2024, meaning you will be able to find the perfect sailing for you to check out Hideaway Beach.
