Cruise News Digest–August 4, 2024

Welcome to the weekly Cruise News Digest. Here you can catch up on the past week’s cruise news and all things La Lido Loca

Let’s dive in!

In the midst of cruise ships getting bigger and bigger, Royal Caribbean’s CEO Jason Liberty spoke on the second-quarter earnings call about the real possibility of a new “Discovery-class” of smaller ships. Some of the reasons given to create a new, smaller class of ship included replacing older ships in their fleet, the diversity of itineraries sailed by smaller ships, and some destinations simply do not allow larger cruise ships.

This fall, Virgin Voyages is offering the first-ever-onboard running club–8 Legs Run Club (8LRC). The club will feature group training sessions, runs that are supervised by experienced fitness professionals, and the chance to run at various destinations on a Sailor’s itinerary.

Disney Cruise Line spent three days revealing details about its third Wish-class ship, Disney Destiny. On day one, the cruise line revealed the heroes and villains-inspired ship will sail from Port Everglades, Florida, a first-of-its-kind dining venue, a sweet lab, two walk-up cafes, and stateroom offerings.

Day two brought information about an adults-only piano lounge inspired by Disney’s live action “Cruella” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians,” a new pub inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean, Cask and Cannon, and a 760-foot-long water ride on the upper deck, AquaMouse.

The third and final day revealed the all new spaces, experiences and ways guests will be able to interact with the characters and stories from the Marvel Universe. From the Grand Hall to Saga to the The Sanctum, guests of all ages will enjoy nods to Wakanda and the Blank Panther as well as Doctor Strange. Marvel Super Heroes abound everywhere from the signature character on the stern to the Iron Man inspired Destiny Tower Suite.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Celebration Key is opening next year and the cruise line has released details about its adults-only Pearl Cove Beach Club. Guests can also begin booking reservations for the exclusive adults-only area as well as the 8 types of villas, cabanas and daybeds which can be found across all zones at Celebration Key, and shore excursions beyond Celebration Key through January 2, 2026.
