Virgin Voyages is starting its very own, first-time-ever onboard running club called the 8 Legs Run Club (8LRC). Whether an experienced runner or a newbie, all Sailors are invited to join the running club onboard any of the Virgin Voyages active ships–Resilient Lady, Valiant Lady or Scarlet Lady.
Of the new onboard running club, a Virgin Voyages spokesperson said, “We’re always looking to expand our wellness offerings, and this fall, we’re inviting our Sailors to lace-up their shoes and join us on-board our ships’ running tracks for our first-ever Run Club. As an avid runner himself, Sir Richard inspired the team at Virgin Voyages to create 8 Legs Run Club for like-minded Sailors to mix, mingle and of course, run.”
Earlier this year, a Sailor onboard Resilient Lady completed a full marathon–26.2 miles–on The Runway on Deck 17. Another Sailor used The Runway–the ship’s 836-foot ‘runway’ that is painted the cruise line’s scarlet red–to run 24 hours straight for a charitable fundraiser. The Sailor ran 639 laps which is the equivalent to 160 miles. These two events are the inspiration for 8LRC.
Sailors who join the new 8LRC will enjoy group training sessions and runs that are supervised by experienced fitness professionals. The run club will also give Sailors the chance to run at various destinations on their itinerary.
The adults only cruise line makes wellness and fitness a priority. They offer complimentary fitness classes, a state-of-the-art gym, spa and salon treatments, a cycling studio, personal training, cardio and strength-training equipment, yoga, and a Fitness on Demand app.
Recently, Virgin Voyages launched a “Seas the Ride” campaign when they partnered with SoulCycle. Sailors can win by simply participating in a high-energy spin class at any of the 61 SoulCycle studios by September 4, 2024. Every ride counts as an entry and one cruise will be awarded at each SoulCycle studio.
