Cruise News Digest–December 22, 2024

Welcome to the weekly Cruise News Digest. Here you can catch up on the past week’s cruise news and all things La Lido Loca

Let’s dive in!

Princess Cruises is ending 2024 with recognition from some of the top travel industry organizations. Naming just a few of the accolades–The cruise line received Best Cruise Line in Alaska, Best Shipboard Tech, Best Travel Advisor Educational Program and Best Advisor Loyalty Program from Travel Weekly. The cruise line’s newest ship, Sun Princess, received Mega Ship of the Year from Condé Nast Traveler and World’s Best Cruise Ship for Dining from the World Cruise Awards.

Cruise lines have been adding more items to their “banned from the ship” list. Some are obvious, some are surprising, and some are permitted on one cruise line but not another. There is no way a cruise line can list every single prohibited item, so if you are unsure, check with the cruise line.

Carnival Cruise Line is doubling the number of ships to sail “down under.” P&O Cruises Australia’s ships are being rebranded as Carnival Adventure and Carnival Encounter. The cruise line will combine P&O Cruises favorites with Carnival’s Fun! Carnival Adventure will join sister ship Carnival Splendor, to sail year-round from Sydney. Carnival Encounter will homeport from Brisbane year-round and Carnival Luminosa will join her in the summer.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Breakaway are getting major updates at the beginning of 2025. Both ships will emerge with a brand-new outdoor recreational venue, Horizon Park. The space will offer lawn-style games like giant Jenga and cornhole as well as plenty of room to relax and take in the panoramic ocean views.

Santa welcomed Carnival Venezia Wednesday morning for her debut from Port Canaveral, Florida. Her arrival made Carnival Cruise Line the first (and only) cruise line to sail five ships from Port Canaveral. Carnival Venezia will sail a 15-week long schedule of Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises and two 14-day Carnival Journeys cruises.

Bluey is coming to Disney Cruise Line. Beginning in January, Disney Cruise Line voyages sailing from New Zealand and Australia will feature meet-and-greets and an interactive, clue-filled game ending in a dance party with Bluey and her sister Bingo.
