Cruise News Digest — August 27, 2023

Welcome to the weekly Cruise News Digest. Here you can catch up on the past week’s cruise news and all things La Lido Loca

Let’s dive in!

The week began with a hurricane. Hurricane Hilary, which was eventually downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone, made landfall and caused major flooding and damage to Southern California. Several cruise ships on the west coast had to alter their itineraries in order to keep guests and crew safe.

Disney Cruise Line invited participants of the LJM Maritime Academy Summer Camp aboard the Disney Wish for the day. While onboard the students were able to learn about cruise time maritime careers directly from Disney Cruise Line crew members.

Celebrity Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line announced new or revamped itineraries for their ships. Celebrity Cruises announced new Caribbean itineraries for the 2024-25 winter season onboard Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Equinox, and Celebrity Summit. The cruise line will also homeport from Port Canaveral for the first time when Celebrity Equinox offers 20 new itineraries from November 2024 through April 2025.

Carnival Cruise line opened more bookings for its 2025 season. Sailings to Alaska from Seattle onboard Carnival Spirit and Carnival Luminosa along with several Carnival Journeys aboard the same ships have been revealed.

Holland America Line also has opened 2025 bookings for its European season. The cruise line announced sailings that include more cruises over 10 days, more sailings to Iceland and a combined 62 overnight calls or late-night departures in popular cities. The new program allows guests to immerse themselves in the art, culture, history, and landscapes of the region.

Exciting news out of Port Canaveral as port commissioners unanimously approved a $67.4 million contract to construct two new northside parking garages. With nearly 6.4 million cruise passengers expected to arrive this year alone, and with the expectation of even more guests in 2024, more parking is certainly needed at the busiest cruise port in the world.

Last, and likely the most fun, Carnival Cruise Line announced Carnival Jubilee’s “Texas-sized Fun” team. The cruise line announced the cruise ship’s two most influential people in the ship—Entertainment Director Matthew Boyd and Cruise Director Kendall “Fire” Magyar. Together, these two leaders will bring over 20 years of experience to the teams they will lead when Carnival Jubilee sets sail from Galveston, Texas on December 23, 2023.
