Utopia of the Seas Floated Out

The last of Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis-Class ships, Utopia of the Seas, is one step closer to her debut from Port Canaveral, Florida in July 2024.

The “game-changing” Oasis Class ship was floated out for the first time over the weekend. This is a major milestone in the construction of any ship. The float out took place at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France where Utopia of the Seas has been under construction since April 2022 when her first steel was cut.

This moment in construction took 17 months to reach and included 74 blocks of steel lifted and assembled into place. The float out process took 15 hours and began with filling the ship’s dry dock with more than 46 million gallons of water. Utopia of the Seas now moves into the next phase of construction—outfitting.

At the outfitting dock, construction will continue with interior details and the installation of highly anticipated features such as onboard waterslides, a surf simulator, an outdoor movie screen, and the 295 foot long Ultimate Abyss—the longest dry slide at sea. Utopia of the Seas will also feature the brand-new Solarium suites.

Utopia of the Seas will be the first in its class to offer short vacations when she debuts in July 2024. Three-night weekend  and four-night weekday getaways will visit Nassau, The Bahamas, and Perfect Day at CocoCay that will feature the adults only Hideaway Beach coming January 2024. Guests will find 40 ways to drink and dine, pools, a new Caribbean tiki bar, a reimagined Izumi restaurant, shows and entertainment.

Utopia of the Seas will also debut as the first Oasis-class ship and the cruise line’s second ship powered by liquified natural gas (LNG) which is the cleanest marine fuel available.
