Is Disney Cruise Line Expanding its Presence in Texas?

Is Disney Cruise Line bringing a ship to the Port of Galveston year-round? According to Galveston Wharves Port Director & Ceo, Rodger Rees, the answer is yes.

During the joint meeting of the City of Galveston and Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves. Rees stated that Disney Cruise Line’s seasonal presence at the port would become year-round in 2027. He also stated that Disney Cruise Line will sail with a larger and newer ship. Currently, Disney Cruise Line sails the oldest ship in its fleet, Disney Magic, seasonally to the Western Caribbean from Galveston.

Rees told the council that cruise lines are planning to invest more than $200 million in Western Caribbean cruises and Galveston is prepared to help with that growth. Rees stated that Florida’s biggest cruise ports are running out of room and more than 40 million people live within an 8-hour drive of Galveston making the port an attractive option for cruise lines.

The Port of Galveston is the fourth-busiest cruise port in North America and still growing. Other cruise lines have already been investing in Galveston. Royal Caribbean opened a new cruise terminal at the Port of Galveston in 2022, and in November 2025 the port will open its fourth–Cruise Terminal 16. The new terminal will dock ships from Norwegian Cruise Line as well as serve as homeport for MSC Cruises’ MSC Seascape.

Both Royal Caribbean International and Carnival Cruise Line homeport larger ships at the Port of Galveston year-round. Royal Caribbean International’s Harmony of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas sail out of Galveston as well as Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Dream and the built-for-Texas Carnival Jubilee.

Disney Cruise Line has not confirmed they will deploy a larger ship from Galveston year-round. Currently, Disney Magic is scheduled at the port from November 2025 to April 2026 before repositioning to Vancouver, British Columbia.
