Disney Cruise Line Names Godparents of Newest Vessel

Disney Cruise Line is celebrating the more than 200,000 Cast Members, crew, Imagineers and employees around the world by bestowing the honorary role of “godparent” of Disney Treasure upon each of them. Each Cast Member and employee help create the magic that makes every Disney vacation an unforgettable experience for families and the cruise line wants to recognize each individual’s contribution.

“At the core of everything we do at Disney are the dedicated Cast Members and employees who create the magic that brings joy to millions of people around the globe,” said Bob Iger, Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. “That’s why we are proud to honor all Disney employees as the godparents of the Disney Treasure. This is our way of paying tribute to the dreamers and doers who continue to tell our stories in the most compelling and innovative ways.”

Naming a ship’s godparent is a longstanding maritime tradition. The godparent bestows a symbolic blessing of good fortune on the vessel and its passengers during the ship’s christening. In 2022, Disney Cruise Line created a new tradition when they named all Make-A-Wish children–past, present and future–as godchildren of Disney Wish, the sister ship of Disney Treasure.

“Every magical guest experience is the result of the collective effort of tens of thousands of Disney Cast Members, Crew Members, Imagineers and employees,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences. “Because of this outstanding team, Disney creativity, storytelling and service continues to set the standards for the entertainment and hospitality industries around the world.”

Disney Treasure made her US debut in Port Canaveral, Florida on November 12, 2024, after her transatlantic crossing from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Eemshaven, Netherlands. On the way she tested seven tunes on her ship’s horns and performed her first rescue off the coast of Bermuda when she was asked by the Coast Guard to rescue four people from a sinking catamaran.

Crew members aboard the Titon-class Disney Treasure are currently preparing the ship for her christening ceremony. The ceremony will take place in New York City on November 19, 2024, at 8pm EST. Fans around the world are invited to participate in the ceremony via live-stream. Disney Treasure will embark on her maiden voyage on December 21, 2024.

Disney Treasure is the newest addition to the multi-year expansion of the cruise line’s fleet. Currently, the fleet includes six ships with seven more to debut by 2031.
