Cruise Ship Monday

Princess Cruises’ Grand Princess

Grand Princess was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy and sailed her inaugural cruise on May 26, 1998. She was the first of the Grand-class ships and was christened by actress Olivia de Havilland. At her debut, she was the largest and most expensive passenger ship ever built.

In March 2019, Princess’ oldest ship underwent a major renovation. She was outfitted with fan-favorite dining venues like Alfredo’s Pizzeria, Salty Dog Grill and Coffee & Cones. The Piazza Atrium received a makeover while the Boutiques and Art Gallery were enhanced offering a more modern and appealing experience. The casino received new games and amenities. The Lotus Spa was enhanced to create a more rejuvenating atmosphere while the Horizon Court Buffet was updated for a better dining experience.

Crown Grill was added to Grand Princess’ dining venues, and Crooner’s Martini Bar was added to the evening lineup. Additionally, “Movies Under the Stars”–the popular outdoor movie venue–was added to the entertainment. The ship received seven new window suites and a new Deck 15 nightclub, The One5, replaced Skywalker.

Grand Princess’ 2600 guests will find 17 decks and 1,301 staterooms when they arrive onboard. She has 37 suites, 180 mini suites, 502 balcony staterooms, 218 outside staterooms and 366 inside staterooms. She has three main dining rooms and 11 other food and beverage venues.

International Café is located in the Piazza and is open 24-hours daily. Here guests will find small meals, treats and gourmet beverages. Guests can visit the buffet style Horizon Court or grab some pizza at Slice Pizzeria poolside. And one can always use OceanNow Delivery.

Named as one of the “Best Cruise Ship Steakhouses” by USA TODAY, specialty venue Crown Grill features premium aged beef and fresh seafood. Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria is the ship’s Italian specialty restaurant featuring authentic signature pastas as well as Italian wines and desserts. On the top deck of the Piazza, guests can sit down at Alfredo’s Pizzeria and watch Princess chefs create pizza by hand before baking them in a woodfire-style oven.

Have a seat in the Crooner bar to enjoy music from the Sinatra era complete with martinis. The Wheelhouse Bar offers a wide selection of classic and exclusive drinks, and Vines Wine Bar offers an extensive selection of wines, Champagne and sparkling wines.
