AIDA Cruises’ AIDAdiva has completed her seven-week dry dock at the Chantier Naval Shipyard in Marseille, France. AIDAdiva is the first vessel in the cruise line’s fleet to undergo this modernization under its Evolution program. Her transformation involved thousands of workers, specialists, more than 170 suppliers, and the ship’s crew. The vessel was outfitted with new technology, upgraded staterooms, new restaurants, and more.
“As part of our AIDA Evolution initiative for the future, we have launched the largest fleet modernization program in our company’s history,” said Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises. “For the first three drydock overhauls alone, we are investing hundreds of millions of euros to make our ships fit for the future, both in terms of travel experience and technology. We are very proud of this program. It shows that AIDA continues to evolve–for our guests and the future of cruising.”
All guest’s cabins have been remodeled. The color scheme of the canopies, carpets, and curtains was updated, and new chairs and sofas were added to the balcony cabins giving them a more modern look. Some cabins were expanded to accommodate a family of four and six family-friendly suites with sun decks were added at the stern. Some suites now feature five-bed occupancy plus a baby cot. Additionally, suite guests can access the Sky Deck and the Rossini Lounge.
The public areas on deck 9, 10, and 11 were redesigned with new restaurants and bars added. The new concepts include French fare at the French Kiss Restaurant and Bar, Asian cuisine at East Fusion, and Spanish tapas at the Tapas Bar. Guests can also enjoy the newly added Panorama Bar, Ice Bar, Tokyo Bar, and Lanai Bar.
Seating in the Theatrium has been expanded and offers a more inviting atmosphere. Backrests around the stage on deck 9 were installed and the color concept was revised. State-of-the-art sound, lighting, and stage control technology were also installed.
The spa area received a complete overhaul. Two wellness suites were added and offer a private whirlpool tub, private sauna and waterbed. The hair salon was redesigned and now also features a nail spa.
On deck 14, a fun park has been added in front of the outdoor sports deck. It includes a climbing tower, a slide, and caves. The Kids Club has also been redesigned.
