Canceled Transatlantic Cruises

Ever had a cruise canceled on cruise day?  That’s exactly what happened to guests scheduled aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2.

Queen Mary 2 should have been embarking on a 7-night transatlantic cruise from Southampton to New York yesterday, April 23, but the crossing was canceled yesterday morning due to a technical issue.

Guests received this email just hours before embarkation:

Queen Mary 2 arrived into Southampton last night for assessment of a technical issue. Unfortunately, after further investigation, it has been confirmed that this work will take longer to resolve than anticipated and the ship is unable to sail until this is completed. We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience this will cause.”

All guests are receiving a complete refund of their cruise along with a future cruise credit of 20% of their fare. All excursions booked through the cruise line are also being fully refunded to the original method of payment.

There has been no word as to what the technical issue is or if this will impact any future cruises on Queen Mary 2

While Queen Mary 2 was canceled last minute leaving guests scrambling to make other arrangements, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway is giving their guests plenty of time to make other plans.

Norwegian Breakaway had been scheduled for her transatlantic sailing on February 25, 2025, but booked guests have learned that the cruise has been canceled. This time the cancellation is due to a location change for the ship’s technical maintenance.

Guests are automatically receiving a full refund of their fare back to their original method of payment. Those refunds should take place within 30 days according to Norwegian. If guests paid using future cruise credit that is being reapplied to their account. Guests are also receiving a 10 percent discount as a future cruise credit on another sailing.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Norwegian Cruise Line said in its email sent to guests. After the dry dock, Norwegian Breakaway will be on schedule for her Mediterranean summer season.
