Norwegian Dawn Cancels Ports of Call

Norwegian Dawn is currently on her repositioning cruise from New York to Southampton across the Atlantic. Guests onboard have been notified that they will have to miss out on two port visits—one due to an iceberg and the other due to weather.

The letters that were delivered to staterooms informed guests that St. Pierre and Miquelon, and St. John’s, Newfoundland we’re being canceled. The ports are considered hazardous for cruise ships at this time.

The email from Asen Guurov, the ship’s captain, read, “Unfortunately, due to the presence of icebergs near St. John’s, Newfoundland and forecasted adverse weather conditions enroute to Reykjavik, Iceland, our itinerary has been revised.”

In the original itinerary, Norwegian Dawn was to call on St. Pierre & Miquelon today, Sunday, April 23, and on St. John’s tomorrow, Monday, April 24.  Currently, the weather forecast calls for showers and winds greater than 20 miles per hour making docking and tendering dangerous. Not to mention, the poor weather would make for an unpleasant experience with possible cancellations of excursions.

Norwegian Cruise Line is compensating guests with $25 onboard credit for the first two guests in each stateroom. They are also refunding excursions booked through the cruise line to guests’ onboard accounts. Some guests may be unhappy with the canceled ports of call and resulting compensation but the safety of the passengers and crew always comes first.

Now that the ports of call have been canceled, Norwegian Dawn is able to switch to a different route that ensures everyone safety across the Atlantic.
