Adora Magic City, the first-ever Chinese-built large cruise ship, arrived at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal from the Shanghai Waigaoqiao shipyard on December 15, 2023, ahead of her maiden voyage. She will remain in the terminal over the next two weeks until she sets sail on January 1, 2024.
Before the ship’s departure from the shipyard, Waigaoqiao shipyard engineers and workers held a brief ceremony to celebrate the completion of the ship that had been under construction since October 2019. Once Adora Magic City arrived at the terminal, the Wusongkou cruise port celebrated with a traditional Chinese dragon dance. Adora Magic City will begin her revenue-gathering cruises on January 1, 2024, the year of the dragon in the Chinese calendar.
“The departure of Adora Magic City from the shipyard and successful docking at Wusongkou cruise port marks a historic moment for both our company and the cruise industry in China,” said Ranfeng Chen, CEO of Adora Cruises. “We are poised to welcome our guests onboard very soon.”
Adora Magic City’s approximately 1,300 crew members from 30 nationalities are currently onboard preparing the ship for her first guests. The ship can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers as they choose between four- and five-night northeast Asia itineraries to Japan and South America.
Adora Cruises designed Adora Magic City specifically for the Chinese market. Her amenities and features include authentic Chinese and international food spaces, exceptional theater and production shows, and a shopping experience that combines both Eastern and Western culture.
