Royal Caribbean Cancels Sailings on Freedom of the Seas

Royal Caribbean has informed booked passengers onboard Freedom of the Seas that select sailings in December 2024 and January 2025, including Christmas and New Year itineraries, have been canceled for drydock work.

One letter to guests stated, “We’re continuously working to improve our ships and the many amenities they have to offer. We’re taking Freedom of the Seas into dry dock for routine maintenance and exciting improvements. Unfortunately, this means your upcoming December 21st, 2024 cruise has been canceled.”

This is sure to be upsetting to guests looking forward to a Christmas or New Years cruise, but the cruise line has offered the following options:

  • Rebook on select 2024 or 2025 itineraries onboard Freedom of the Seas or Oasis of the Seas departing from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. These itineraries include various 7- and 8-night voyages to multiple destinations including Perfect Day at CocoCay.
  • Rebook any other Royal Caribbean International sailing.
  • Cancel for a full refund within 14 business days.

Royal Caribbean has not revealed what “exciting improvements” guests can expect after Freedom of the Seas’ drydock.

The last time she was in drydock was in 2020 when she was upgraded to receive Playmakers Sports Bar, the Perfect Storm slides, and the Studio B Ice rink can now transition into a laser tag arena or a nightclub, along with other improvements.

Royal Caribbean seems to be planning something special for the Spirit-class ship, could her sisters be following suit soon?
