Miray Cruises Acquires New Ship for 3-Year World Cruise

Miray Cruises through its subsidiary, Life at Sea Cruises, opened bookings for the world’s first three-year world cruise on March 1, 2023, aboard the MV Gemini.

However, by the end of May, the seaworthiness of the ship was in question, some passengers were already requesting refunds, and it was unclear if the voyage would even happen.

On June 29, Miray Cruises announced that due to an overwhelming demand for the cruise, it is replacing the Gemini with a recently acquired and larger ship, Lara. Gemini can accommodate 1,074 passengers, while Lara can accommodate 1,266 passengers. Lara is the former AIDAaura which sailed for Carnival Corporation’s German brand AIDA Cruises until 2020.

“We are beyond excited to introduce the beautiful MV Lara for this incredible, history-making, 3-year voyage,” said Kendra Holmes, CEO of Miray Cruises. “Our fleet is expanding due to the unprecedented demand for our long-duration circumnavigation voyages to responsibly explore every corner of our planet. Our residents are changing their lives for this opportunity, and we are honored to be a part of their personal journeys.”

The switch to Lara offers redesigned staterooms, business offices, a cigar and wine bar, a 24-hour on-call hospital to include free medical visits, and more. There will be learning and enrichment lectures while onboard along with volunteer and philanthropic initiatives in which passengers can participate.

Before Lara departs from Istanbul on November 1, 2023, Miray Cruises also intends to host events to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic for all booked passengers. The three-year world cruise will encompass over 130,000 miles, 375 ports, 135 countries, and seven continents. The itinerary features 13 UNESCO World Heritage sites and Wonders of the World along with multiple days in port so passengers can explore at their own pace.
