Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas will debut in August 2025 with the “Queen of Motown Records” as her official godmother. The cruise line announced Diana Ross will take part in the maritime tradition of bestowing safekeeping on the ship and all who sail on her.
“We are thrilled to have Diana Ross join us for the debut of Star of the Seas, the next bold vacation in our revolutionary Icon Class designed to encompass the best a vacation experience can offer,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean. “We couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together. We can’t wait to welcome Ms. Ross, our guests and crew to celebrate the arrival of Star this August.”
Ross will also lead the official naming ceremony and christening that will be held in the ship’s AquaTheater in the AquaDome neighborhood. While the cruise line has not announced when the official ceremony will be held, the 5,600-passenger Star of the Seas will be named at Port Canaveral, Florida where she will homeport until at least spring 2027.
“I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,” said Diana Ross. “Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.”
Like her sister, Icon of the Seas, the vessel was built with eight neighborhoods delivering an amazing family vacation. Whether it’s the Category 6 waterpark, one of the seven pools, the entertainment or one of the 40 ways to drink and dine, guests will find something for everyone.
Star of the Seas recently passed her sea trials and is now in her final stages of construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. After her delivery to Royal Caribbean, she will sail four preview cruises beginning August 16, 2025. The vessel’s “official” maiden voyage is a 7-night Western Caribbean sailing with ports of call at Perfect Day at CocoCay; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Roatan, Honduras. Following her preview and inaugural cruises, Star of the Seas will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages to some of the most sought-after destinations including Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.
