Princess Cruises has canceled a second cruise in two weeks for Regal Princess out of Galveston, Texas. The cruise line canceled the ship’s October 27, 2024 sailing for technical repairs and has now canceled its November 3, 2024 sailing because the repairs are not completed.
In a message sent to guests, Princess said, “Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to complete essential technical repairs, and we regret to inform you that this sailing must be cancelled.”
The 2014-built Regal Princess sailed a 33-night transatlantic repositioning cruise from Northern Europe earlier this month and her first voyage from Galveston was to take place on October 27, 2024. The 7-night Western Caribbean voyage was canceled just two days before embarkation. The itinerary featured visits to Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and Cozumel, Mexico.
The Carnival-owned Princess Cruises is issuing a full refund of cruise fare and excursions booked through the cruise line to all booked guests. The cruise line is also offering a 25% discount on a future cruise booked by May 31, 2025 and sailed by May 31, 2026.
Princess Cruises’ communication continued, “We know how much effort and anticipation go into planning a vacation, and we are truly sorry for the disappointment and inconvenience this change causes. Your time is valuable, and we understand how frustrating it is to have your plans disrupted.”
Princess Cruises will also reimburse guests air change fees up to $200 per person.
While Princess Cruises has not revealed what “technical issues” are causing the cancellations, guests on the ship’s transatlantic cruise have shared there was a fire in the ship’s engine room during their sailing. They also reported power outages with one as recent as October 24, 2024.
It is unclear how long the repairs may take or if the Royal-class ship’s November 10, 2024, sailing will take place.
