On Friday, July 19, 2024, about 800 people were on the shoreline of Port Canaveral’s Jetty park to take part in the “The World’s Biggest Wave Out” party as Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas officially embarked on her maiden voyage. The family-friendly party, which included a DJ, bubble machine, giveaways, food and homemade ice cream, was hosted by Port Canaveral for the local community.
The brand-new Utopia joined a special parade of ships with Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Glory, Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas and Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish all departing from Port Canaveral on Friday. The world’s second-largest cruise ship was led out of Port by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Marine Unit, Canaveral Fire Rescue’s Fireboat 2 with a water cannon display and two local tugboats, Christine S from E.N. Bisso & Sons Towing and the St. Johns from Marine Towing of Port Canaveral.
“Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas is one of the most anticipated new cruise ships in the industry,” stated Capt. John Murray, Port Canaveral CEO. “We’re proud to be Royal Caribbean’s partner for this industry first experience and excited to support the strong market demand for short itineraries. Our team is ready and committed to providing high-quality experiences to help all cruise guests launch their memorable journeys from our Port.”
While today marks the end of Utopia’s first official 3-day weekend voyage, it also begins her first official 4-night weekday voyage. All of Utopia’s short voyages will include Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas with an added sea day to explore and enjoy the ship on the 4-day sailing.
