Norwegian Cruise Line to Expand Private Island

Norwegian Cruise Line has revealed plans to expand its private island, Great Stirrup Cay. It will offer “MORE to do and MORE to enjoy” for everyone.

Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., said, “These newly announced enhancements to Great Stirrup Cay will further improve the guest experience on the island, which is already one of our top-rated destinations worldwide. Along with the completion of a new multi-ship pier later this year, we’re improving both access and amenities on the island. As we anticipate annual guest visits to exceed one million by 2026, we are actively evaluating additional investments in the island to support that growth and expand the amenities our guests can enjoy.”

The expansion will include a new welcome center that features a new tram service. The tram service will offer guests more accessibility and more time to explore the Bahamian island. Guests will find new cabanas, an expansive heated pool with a swim-up bar, and a splash pad for the youngsters.

Speaking at the christening of Norwegian Aqua, David J Herrera, President of Norwegian Cruise Line, stated, “…we are unveiling that Great Stirrup Cay is getting even greater with MORE to do! Later this year we will launch new experiences for our guests to enjoy on this already incredible private island. And now with our newest ship, Norwegian Aqua, entering into the market with voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, it is the perfect time to start planning your next warm-weather vacation.”

The island will also feature an adults-only Vibe Beach Club, which is already an onboard favorite, and Horizon Park, a new area that recently debuted on Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Breakaway. Horizon Park offers lawn-style games for the entire family. There will also be a new relaxation area, complete with hammocks and other amenities not yet revealed.

While there is not an exact date, the expansion is expected to debut along with the island’s new multi-ship pier later this year.
