Norwegian Breakaway completed a trans-Atlantic sailing from Miami to Europe on February 19, 2025. She then arrived at the Damen Shipyard in Brest, France the next day for a three-week-long drydock that will include a significant refurbishment.
Norwegian Breakaway, which debuted in 2013, is the first of the Norwegian Cruise Line Breakaway class of ships. Her sister ship, Norwegian Getaway, debuted just one year later. In 2015, the Breakaway-plus class launched with the debut of Norwegian Escape followed by Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Bliss, and Norwegian Encore which debuted in 2017, 2018 and 2019, respectively.
While in dry dock, Norwegian Breakaway will undergo regular maintenance and receive additional enhancements. One major change will be the addition of the new Silver Screen Bistro taking the place of the Spiegel Tent specialty restaurant. The new Silver Screen Bistro will be outfitted with oversized recliners and retractable tables. The menu will feature shareable handheld items, including dishes from Food Republic.
Following its successful debut on Norwegian Bliss, Horizon Park will now also be found on Norwegian Breakaway. Horizon Park is an outdoor venue with live music and entertainment as well as stunning 360° ocean views. Also debuting on Norwegian Breakaway will be The Stadium–a family-friendly outdoor activity venue. Additionally, Vibe Beach Club and The Haven Sundeck will be outfitted with more seating and cabanas.
Changes will also be made to the ship’s food and beverage menus. Replacing Moderno Churrascaria will be an expanded Cagney’s Steakhouse and Ocean Blue will be transformed into Palomar–the cruise line’s Mediterranean seafood restaurant.
When Norwegian Breakaway returns to service she will sail a 14-day one way voyage from Southampton to Barcelona where she will homeport to offer a series of cruises in the Mediterranean. She will sail 9- to 11-night cruises to destinations across Spain, Greece, Italy, France and more until early November when she sails a 15-day repositioning cruise to North America. Norwegian Breakaway will spend her winter season sailing throughout the Caribbean, Florida and The Bahamas.
