MSC Cruises announced that Drew Barrymore–actress, talk show host and mom–will be the Godmother of its new flagship, MSC World America. Barrymore, along with Orlando Bloom, will be cutting the ribbon and breaking the bottle of champagne on the bow of the ship during its naming ceremony the evening of Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Barrymore and Bloom starred together in the cruise line’s “Let’s Holiday” campaign that debuted during Super Bowl LIX. The naming ceremony will take place at MSC’s Miami Cruise Terminal which opened in February 2025.
“When MSC Cruises asked me to be the Godmother of MSC World America, I immediately said yes!” stated Drew Barrymore, actress and host of the Drew Barrymore Show. “I absolutely love to travel—it fuels my soul—and being part of something that helps people set off on incredible adventures is just amazing. There’s something so magical about cruises; they let you discover the world in this really fun, unexpected way. And to be able to name MSC World America and send the ship off with well wishes and good luck is such an honor.”
Suzanne Salas, EVP, Marketing, eCommerce & Sales, stated, “As a family company with over 300 years of seafaring heritage, these events hold a special and personal significance for us. We value the important maritime tradition where our Godmother breaks a bottle of champagne on the hull and officially names the ship, bringing good luck and protection. Drew is the perfect Godmother for MSC World America, and we are thrilled to continue to partner with her for this campaign. She embodies our brand perfectly, with her exquisite style and grace, and her passion for the comfort and adventure we find through travel.”
Guests at MSC World America’s naming ceremony will enjoy dinner and entertainment before departing on a 3-night sailing. MSC World America will take its guests to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve–the cruise line’s private island in The Bahamas. While there, the MSC Foundation will host its own ribbon cutting ceremony debuting its new Marine Conservation Center which educates guests about the research, conservation and restoration of coral reefs that have been damaged by climate change.
MSC World America will be the largest ship in the cruise line’s fleet when she debuts. The ship, which has been specifically designed for the North American market, features seven districts, 19 dining venues, and 18 bars and lounges.
MSC World America will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from PortMiami. Eastern Caribbean sailings will call on Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Ocean Cay, while Western Caribbean sailings will call on Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and Ocean Cay.
