Thursday, October 24, 2024, brought exciting news out of the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The shipyard officially delivered the second Triton-class ship, Disney Treasure, to Disney Cruise line six days early!
Disney Signature Experiences President Thomas Mazloum and Captain Marco Nogara took delivery of the 144,000-gross ton ship during the official ceremony from Meyer Werft CEO Bernd Eikens and Managing Director Bernard Meyer. Eikens signed the delivery paperwork along with Meyer and Mazloum.
“We are very happy to hand over the Disney Treasure to Disney Cruise Line today. She is the newest milestone in our longstanding partnership and everyone at MEYER WERFT has put a lot of effort and passion into Disney Treasure”, said Eikens.
Mazloum said, “The Disney Treasure is yet another example of how we’re bringing the magic of Disney cruising to more fans than ever before – and today, we are one step closer to debuting this spectacular ship to the world. We’re incredibly thankful for our work with Meyer Werft and look forward to our bright future together as we continue to expand the Disney Cruise Line fleet.”
Disney Treasure will bring new adventures such as a theatrical dining experience inspired by Pixar’s “Coco,” a Broadway-style play of Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Moana,” the first-ever Haunted Mansion themed bar, as well as other Disney Parks-inspired adult venues.
Disney Treasure is the fifth Disney ship built by Meyer Werft. Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line began their partnership with Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, delivered in 2010 and 2012. Disney Wish, Disney Treasure’s sister, was delivered in 2022, and their younger sister, Disney Destiny, is currently under construction in the shipyard to be delivered in 2025.
Disney Treasure will homeport from Port Canaveral, Florida and sail her maiden voyage on December 21, 2024. Her first holiday will be spent in the Eastern Caribbean calling on the British and US Virgin Islands along with the cruise line’s private destination, Castaway Cay.
Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line announced in August 2024 the German shipyard will build four more ships to join the fleet between 2027 and 2031.
