Disney Cruise Line’s New Private Destination Ready to Welcome Guests

Disney Cruise Line welcomed Bahamian government officials and community leaders to the Junkanoo-inspired Goombay Cultural Center to celebrate the opening of its new private island destination in Eleuthera, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Disney Cruise Line and Bahamian artists, historians, and cultural experts have been working together since April 2022 to bring the one-of-a-kind tropical experience to the cruise line’s guests. When they first set foot on the island, guests will be immersed in the spirit and culture of The Bahamas as they experience Bahamian-inspired entertainment, music, artistry and more.

“We are excited to celebrate the opening of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point with the Bahamian community,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line. “The making of our second island destination in The Bahamas has been an incredible collaboration. We’re so proud of the relationships that we’ve built here in the community and the unique story that we’re telling together. We look forward to welcoming our first guests to the island, where they will experience the spirit of The Bahamas with a special touch of Disney magic.”

Guests enjoyed a performance by a group of local Junkanoos which featured the winning teams of Eleuthera’s Junior Junkanoo competition–Tarpum Bay Primary and Preston H. Albury High School. The ceremony also included remarks from Prime Minister Philip Davis and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation I. Chester Cooper who both spoke to the partnership between Disney Cruise Line and The Bahamas.

Davis spoke to the authenticity of the Bahamian culture that Disney created. “The inclusion of culture at Disney’s new destination in Eleuthera is exemplary. From its thoughtful design to entertainment featuring Junkanoos, people who visit will experience The Bahamas and our special culture in a new way.”

While Chester addressed the strengthening of the economy and future tourism in The Bahamas through this partnership. “Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a prime example of the investment boom in The Bahamas. Disney continues to be a gold standard community partner in its support of conservation, culture, economic and community growth.”

The construction of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point created hundreds of jobs for Bahamians and when the private destination opens it will be led by an all-Bahamian team. The opening of the private destination has created nearly 200 roles that are filled by Bahamians which exceeds the original commitment number in Disney’s Head of Agreement for Lighthouse Point.

Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will welcome its first cruise passengers when Disney Magic arrives on June 7, 2024.
