Welcome to Cruise Ship Monday.
Today let’s explore the Carnival Spirit-class ships–Carnival Spirit (2001), Carnival Pride (2002), Carnival Legend (2002), Carnival Miracle (2004) and Carnival Luminosa (2009). The design of these ships makes them the perfect ships for “all-weather” cruising. The pools have retractable domes so they can sail in places where it’s too cold for an open pool deck.
The 2,134-passenger Spirit-class ships are some of the smallest ships in the fleet making them great to visit smaller ports. With their smaller size, they can pass under smaller bridges and transit the old locks of Panama Canal. They have the largest percentage of balcony and oceanview cabins for taking in the scenery in destinations like Alaska. However, you will still find the same amount of fun on these Carnival ships.
Other than Carnival Luminosa, each of the Spirit-class ships has basically the same dining and drink venues. Whether you are looking for pizza, ice cream, Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, the main dining room, specialty dining or 24-hour room service, you will not be disappointed. Guests can use their Cheers! Package at Alchemy Bar, RedFrog Rum Bar, RedFrog Pub, or BlueIguana Tequila Bar.The casinos are very similar offering the Carnival Players Club, slots, table games, blackjack and poker.
Guests can enjoy Family Feud, Playlist Productions in the theater, the Punchliner Comedy Club, dive-in movies, Deal or No Deal, karaoke, and live music. Each ship has its owned themed parties like the 80s Rock-N-Glow Party, White Hot Night Party, Groove for St. Jude and a Sailaway Party.
There is children and teens programming in Camp Ocean, Circle “C,” and Club O2. Everyone will enjoy the Dr. Seuss activities, WaterWorks, the pools and waterslides. Adults can get away to the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat or Cloud 9 Spa for a massage or facial treatment. Of course there are fitness classes in the fitness center.
Carnival Luminosa is different in that she was originally built for Costa Cruises and was known as Costa Luminosa. She was transferred to Carnival Cruise Line in 2022. While she was built as a Spirit-class ship, she is slightly larger and has a 2,260-passenger capacity. She does not have some of the popular dining and drink venues of the other Spirit-class ships, but the majority of her other amenities remain the same.
