Royal Caribbean International started off the week by announcing a new beach club experience–the Royal Beach Club Cozumel in Mexico–opening in 2026. This experience is the latest in private destinations for the cruise line which includes Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas; Labadee, Haiti; and the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island opening in 2025.

Carnival Freedom’s whale tail funnel caught fire due to a possible lightning strike while sailing in the Bahamas. Initially, Carnival did not think it would affect future sailngs, but the damage ended up more extensive and the cruise line canceled the next sailings from Port Canaveral. Carnival Freedom returned to Freeport to start her repairs and is expected to resume service on April 4, 2024.

Celebrity Cruises announced more short Caribbean sailings for its upcoming 2025-2026 cruise season. These cruises were offered for the first time during this summer season and were overwhelmingly popular. Their popularity prompted the cruise line to continue these offerings during the next cruise season. 

Carnival Corporation announced two newbuilds for Carnival Cruise Line within six weeks. The agreements signed with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft will add the fourth and fifth Excel-class cruise ships to the cruise line’s fleet in 2027 and 2028. 

Disney Treasure was set afloat in the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. She was moved from her initial dock to a new location in order to continue construction and make room for her sister ship, Disney Destiny. Disney Destiny is expected to debut in 2025. 

Margaritaville at Sea announced the new food and drink options that will be found aboard Islander when she debuts in June from Port Tampa. The Islander will feature six new dining venues and 11 new bars and lounges along with Sailors favorites like JWB Prime Steakhouse and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
