Cruise News Digest–July 14, 2024

Welcome to the weekly Cruise News Digest. Here you can catch up on the past week’s cruise news and all things La Lido Loca

Let’s dive in!

AIDA Cruises has opened bookings for over 450 cruises for Summer 2026. Fans of AIDA cruises can choose to view the 2026 solar eclipse from one of five AIDA ships, the Perseids meteor shower from AIDAdiva, the Aurora Borealis from AIDAsol, or just enjoy a summer vacation anywhere AIDA Cruises sails.

On October 1, 2024, the city of Juneau will vote to restrict cruise operations by establishing “ship-free Saturdays.” The measure, if passed, will ban vessels with 250 passengers or more from docking at its port on any Saturday and on July 4 each year.

13-time World Pizza Champion and undisputed greatest pizza maker in modern history, Chef Tony Gemignani, has partnered with Princess Cruises to curate five pizzas with “an exciting blend of savory flavors and premium ingredients from Soppressata sausage and hot honey to Gorgonzola and sweet fig preserve.” The pizzas will initially debut at Alfredo’s onboard Sun Princess and arrive on the rest of the fleet later this summer.

Nassau Cruise Port in the Bahamas is planning a $35 million water park to be constructed on the western side of the port. The water park, which will create another 350 full-time jobs, is expected to be completed toward the end of 2025.

Royal Caribbean International’s Utopia of the Seas is at Terminal 1 in her homeport of Port Canaveral. Tomorrow she will begin her three-night christening cruise with GRAMMY-award winning artist Meghan Trainor serving as the ship’s godmother. She will sail her inaugural cruise on July 19, 2024, with La Lido Loca’s Tony onboard.

Princess Cruises’ Emerald Princess is arriving in Boston today. She will sail an inaugural season of 10 Canada & New England voyages, including a bucket-list Greenland & Canada itinerary. That itinerary is a 17-day roundtrip voyage that includes ports of call in Nuuk, Qaqortoq and Nonortalik, Greenland; Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia; and St. Anthony and St. John’s, Newfoundland.
