Cruise News Digest–January 21, 2024

Welcome to the weekly Cruise News Digest. Here you can catch up on the past week’s cruise news and all things La Lido Loca

Let’s dive in!

Viking Cruises announce three new itineraries taking guests to exclusive destinations in China. From September to November 2024, Viking Cruises’ Viking Yi Dun will offer 10 to 20 voyages that explore some of China’s most iconic cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Guests will visit rarely-seen destinations and ports never before offered to international visitors.

What is happening with hiding rubber ducks? Apparently, Disney Cruise Line is “discouraging” the fun and crew members are removing ships found around the ship. However, Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald has a different view of the fun. He says, “…it gives so many people joy so why would we stop the spreading of joy?”  I concur, Mr. Heald. I concur.

Carnival Cruise Line received the National Economic Impact Award from the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce this week. This follows the cruise line’s recent expansion of its homeport operations in Texas. Carnival Cruise Line currently has three ships sailing from Galveston with a fourth coming late October. This promises to bring more than 15,000 guests to Galveston who will spend millions of dollars boosting the local economy.

MSC Group and the Miami-Dade Beacon Council have announced the development of MSC Group’s new home in Downtown Miami. The $100 million facility is a 130,000 square foot office space located at Block 55 at Sawyer’s Walk that will bring approximately 250 South Florida team members together under one roof. Along with the move, MSC Cruises is building a new cruise terminal at PortMiami further establishing Miami as its new home. Once completed it will be the largest cruise terminal in North America.

If you ever want to know where Carnival Cruise Line stands on your issue, just ask John Heald. It seems since the beginning of the year, Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald is addressing or clarifying something every other day via social media. Whether it’s mobility scooters and elevators, the use of drones, the timing of the “Behind the Fun” ship tour, rubber ducks, or plastic straws and bottles, Heald has an answer for you.

Wrapping up this week, the Port of Galveston has reported remarkable growth as compared to 2022. The cruise port welcomed 1.49 million passengers and set a record of 354 cruise sailings. With the opening of a third cruise terminal, the major renovation of Cruise Terminal 25, and the welcoming of more and larger ships, the Port of Galveston is moving forward to become a leading cruise destination.
