Cruise News Digest–December 15, 2024

Norwegian Cruise Line is continuing to cancel 2025 and 2026 cruises. This past week 35 more sailings were cancelled due to “fleet redeployment.” Sailings aboard Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Joy were affected between November 2025 and April 2025 depending on the ship. 

Princess Cruises reported record-breaking bookings during the 4-day sales period between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. According to the cruise line, there was a strong demand for both 2025 and 2026 cruises with the strongest demand for 2026 sailings. Bookings for 2026 sailings increased by 66% as compared to 2025 bookings made during the same time period in 2023.

Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line jointly announced Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas has been renamed RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, bringing focus to the peaceful experience guests can expect when they visit the island. Along with the name change, the cruise lines revealed details of renovations that will begin by summer 2026 and be completed by year’s end. 

The Port of Galveston reached a major milestone when it welcomed its 1.5-millionth guest. With the achievement, the port broke its 2023 record and is on track to welcome more than 1.6 million passengers by year’s end. The port is also on track to open its fourth cruise terminal in November 2025 which will certainly bring even more guests through the port in the coming years.

Royal Caribbean announced its Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in The Bahamas will open in December 2025. The venue will cover 17 acres on the west end of Paradise Island, offer stunning beaches, multiple pools, swim-up bars, eateries, beach bars and more than 40 cabanas. Guests can begin purchasing all-includes day passes and cabanas in the spring of 2025. 

Cast and crew members of Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Wish, along with Mickey Mouse, surprised the students and teachers at Albury Sayle Primary School in Nassau to spread some holiday cheer. 150 primary school students were able to meet, hug and take a photo with the famous mouse and all students were given a Disney toy to take home.
