Cruise News Digest—August 6, 2023

Crystal Cruises, who was purchased by A&K Travel Group back in February 2022, made a major announcement this past week. While onboard the preview voyage of the refurbished Crystal Serenity, Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group, announced the cruise line intends to build four new ships by 2029. This expansion will be significant growth for the cruise line who currently owns two ships.  

MSC Cruises served as the official title sponsor at the MSC Cruises Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix 2023. The race took place at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Belgium. Not only was MSC featured at the start/finish line and key locations around the track, but also on the winner’s podium with a trophy co-designed by the cruise line. 

Registration of John Heald’s “FFS Cruise #6” sold out in five minutes after a technical glitch delayed registration. John Heald is Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador and his “For Fun’s Sake Cruise” is a special sailing where registered guests can take part in various activities that promise “massive dollops of fun” with Heald himself. 

Explora Journeys’ Explora I embarked on her maiden voyage on August 1, 2023. Explora Journeys is the new luxury brand of MSC Group that also has a second ship, Explora II, under construction and expected to enter service in August 2024.

Norwegian Cruise Line took delivery of a second Prima Class ship this week, Norwegian Viva. She is expected to sail her maiden voyage on August 10, 2023, be christened in Miami on November 28, 2023 before she homeports in San Juan, Puerto Rico through March 2024. 

This week ended with Princess Cruises being named as the Official Cruise Line Vacation Partner of the Los Angeles Rams. The partnership means fans will see Princess Cruises combining the “thrill of the game with the excitement of travel” during home games throughout the stadium on the massive Infinity Screen in So-Fi Stadium. Princess Cruises will also sponsor the Rams’ digital series “We Love LA” where fans can follow players around the city as they shop, golf, or visit a cruise ship. The organizations will also team up in various ways in their commitment to give back to the Los Angeles community.
