Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas Completing Sea Trials

The debut of Legend of the Seas is quickly approaching, but not before she completes her sea trials which began off the coast of Turku, Finland on Sunday, April 19, 2026. She will spend 10 days on open water in the Baltic Sea having every system tested under real conditions.

Shipbuilder Meyer Turku announced, “Legend of the Seas has begun her sea trials! The vessel departed the shipyard on Sunday evening, marking the start of an approximately week-long testing phase at sea. During sea trials, all critical systems and the vessel’s overall performance are evaluated under real operating conditions, including machinery, navigation, and hotel operations, to ensure everything functions as intended. Smooth sailing and fair winds for the journey ahead!”

The third Icon-class ship is carrying more than 2,000 engineers and specialists who will test how the ship moves in the water and her technical systems as they push her engines to the limit while covering approximately 2,400 nautical miles. These sea trials mark one of the final phases before the ship will be delivered.

Royal Caribbean announced via social media, “Legend of the Seas has started her sea trials. This marks one of the last few major milestones ahead of Legend’s debut in July. Over the next 10 days, Legend will push her engines to the limit – think doing donuts and hitting max speed – across 2,400 nautical miles with over 2,000 engineers and specialists on board.”

Once she returns to the Meyer Turku shipyard, crews will complete her interior work and final touches before delivery will be made to Royal Caribbean. She is expected to enter service on July 4, 2026.

Legend of the Seas will spend her inaugural season in Europe sailing 7-day Western Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona to France, Italy and Spain. In November, she will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Port Everglades, Florida, to offer alternating 8-day Southern and 6-day Western Caribbean voyages that will all visit Perfect Day at CocoCay.
