Princess Cruises officially welcomed Star Princess during a star-studded ceremony at Port Everglades on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The ceremony was held in the Princess Arena and attended by Carnival Corp. & plc, Princess Cruises and Port Everglades officials and senior executives, godparents Matthew and Camila McConaughey, grammy-award winning Sheryl Crow, La Lido Loca’s Tony B along with Cruise Radio’s Doug Parker.
Introducing the McConaugheys, Princess Cruises’ President Gus Antorcha said, “Just as our ground-breaking Sphere Class has evolved to include not one but two magnificent ships, we thought it was time to evolve this tradition as well. Today, Star Princess will not only be entrusted to the care of a godmother, she will have a godfather too because a ship this extraordinary deserves double the blessing and double the celebration.”
He continued, “Together, they’re a powerhouse couple, inspiring others while always remaining grounded in family, purpose, and authenticity.”
Matthew McConaughey is an Academy Award-winning actor, while Camila is a model, designer and entrepreneur. Together they founded Pantalones Organic Tequila, making it only fitting that instead of the traditional bottle of champagne, a massive bottle of the couple’s signature Pantalone Reposado tequila was used to name Star Princess, as the McConaugheys blessed her with the traditional blessing.
The ceremony was followed by a concert on the lido deck by the nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow. The concert was followed by an dazzling drone show that was a nod to the time Star Princess will spend in Alaska.
Today, Star Princess will embark on a 3-day roundtrip Maiden Caribbean voyage that will include a call on the cruise line’s exclusive Princess Cays in the Bahamas.
