Princess Cruises Making Changes to MedallionPay

If you watched The Cruise Show yesterday, you know that Carnival Cruise Line released a new non-alcoholic drink package–Cheers Zero Proof Drink Package–for $30 per day when purchased pre-embarkation. Before you think you could never reach $30 per day, take a look at what is included: Sodas, juices, bottled water, premium coffees & teas, zero proof cocktails, alcohol-free beer, alcohol-free sparkling wine, frozen drinks, smoothies and bottled protein shakes, milkshakes and energy drinks.

While Carnival was adding this zero proof package, Princess Cruises was making some changes to its MedallionPay. Currently, cruisers can earn a 7% cash back rebate to their onboard account by using their complimentary Medallion Wearable and make secure, contactless purchases at various participating shops, restaurants, and more while in select ports of call. Using the Medallion, allows the merchant to verify the cruiser’s identity and complete the transaction as if they were onboard.

However, beginning October 16, 2025, Princess Cruises’ MedallionPay Shoreside Shop and Sail program is reducing its 7% cash back rebate bonus to 2%. Despite the sizable reduction, the cruise line stated that “MedallionPay Shoreside remains the most convenient method for shopping at our ports of call.”

MedallionPay may also be one of the safest ways to pay while in port. Cruisers can leave their credit cards behind reducing the risk of theft or loss. Additionally, the Medallion does not store any credit card numbers or personal information making it completely safe.

Not sure if MedallionPay will work in the port you are visiting? First, even though the rebate is being reduced, the program is being expanded. Princess Cruises is including additional stores giving cruisers more opportunities to shop while in port and earn cash back. Second, the MedallionPay website lists the merchants by destination and port that take the payment method. Lastly, merchants who accept MedallionPay will display a sign letting cruisers know they accept the convenient payment method.

How about you? Have you used your Medallion Wearable to make purchases in port?
