Norwegian Cruise Line Cancels Multiple Alaskan Cruises

Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled a large part of Norwegian Spirit’s 2024 Alaska sailings.

The cruise line reached out to booked guests to inform them that sailings booked between July 3, 2024 and September 18, 2024 have been canceled. Booked guests received an email that read, “As a result of a full ship charter, Norwegian Spirit’s sailings from July 3, 2024 through and including September 18, 2024 have been canceled.”

These cancellations are affecting all  7-night itineraries-12 in total-and adds up to all of the regular Alaska season for Norwegian Spirit.

Since charter sailings are the cause for these cancellations, the ship will remain in service and continue to welcome guests. However, bookings will go through the appropriate charter company rather than Norwegian Cruise Line.

Based on double occupancy and the popularity of these Alaskan sailings, there could be more than 24,000 guests affected, therefore Norwegian Cruise Line is offering a very generous compensation.

First, all guests will automatically receive a full refund. The refund will be returned to the original method of payment. Guests who paid with Future Cruise Credit (FCC) will find the credit returned to their loyalty account.

Norwegian Cruise Line has also “issued a 50 percent discount in the form of an FCC for select sailings to Alaska this summer departing from Seward, Alaska or Vancouver, Canada.” These sailings are onboard either Norwegian Jewel or Norwegian Spirit.

Last, each guest is receiving a 10% FCC for any sailing between May 22, 2023 and December 31, 2024. Four Norwegian ships are expected to sail during the 2024 Alaskan summer season—Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Jewel and Norwegian Sun.

While it is disappointing to have any booked cruise canceled, affected cruisers should be able to find an acceptable alternative within the options Norwegian Cruise Line has offered.
