Norwegian Cruise Line Cancels 41 Cruises

Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled more than four months of sailings aboard Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Prima due to “a fleet redeployment” in 2026. The total number of impacted cruises is 41 in all–21 aboard Norwegian Breakaway and 20 aboard Norwegian Prima.

The reason for the cancellation is Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Prima are actually swapping homeports. Norwegian Breakaway will sail Norwegian Prima’s 7-night Western Caribbean itineraries from New Orleans, Louisiana,  and Norwegian Prima will sail Norwegian Breakaway’s Southern Caribbean itineraries from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Impacted cruises for Norwegian Breakaway include those between November 8, 2026 and March 28, 2027, and for Norwegian Prima, impacted cruises include those between November 15, 2026 and March 28, 2027.

The original itineraries for each ship will be available and open for bookings next month, Friday, August 8, 2025. Current bookings have been canceled and will not be automatically transferred. Guests will receive a full refund to their original form of payment as well as a 10% future cruise credit that can be used as a discount on any Norwegian Cruise Line ship from any homeport through December 31, 2027. This includes the rebooking of the same itinerary on the replacement ship.

The cruise line did issue an apology letter to those whose cruises had been impacted which said, “As passionate cruisers ourselves, we know this wasn’t part of your plan, and we truly apologize for any disruption or disappointment this has caused. We want to assure you that we’re here to make this process as smooth as possible.”

While Norwegian Breakaway is an older ship, she can accommodate nearly 900 more guests than Norwegian Prima meaning more cruisers can sail the Western Caribbean from New Orleans. At full capacity, that is more than 17,000 cruisers setting sail from the Big Easy. Norwegian Prima sailing from Puerto Rico, gives those guests the opportunity to sail the new Prima-class ship throughout the Southern Caribbean.
