Thought we could take the time to go back to last week and give an overview of a couple stories we did not cover.
The first is from Carnival Cruise Line. This story has been ongoing and finally culminated on Saturday, July 19, 2025–the official grand opening of Celebration Key, the cruise line’s new exclusive destination on Grand Bahama. Nearly 5,000 guests aboard Carnival Vista were included in the first official visit to the “world’s newest premier cruise port.”
Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy, Carnival Corporation CEO Josh Weinstein, Chief Fun Officer Shaquille O’ Neal and Carnival Vista Captain Paolo Severini were on hand to “unlock” the symbolic padlock of the 10-story Suncastle with its thrilling slides, cut the ribbon to open Lokono Cove, celebrated with a champagne toast at the adults-only Pearl Cove Beach Club, and Shaq took the first shot at the basketball court. Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, was also on the island for the grand opening showing off the many features of the destination and answering questions.
“Opening this new exclusive destination marks an extraordinary milestone for Carnival as we open the first phase of our initial $600M investment, with more to come. Celebration Key is more than just a beautiful place; it’s a celebration of the Bahamian paradise our guests love, complemented by an impressive variety of incredible new experiences and offerings,” said Duffy. “We’ve built the ultimate beach day for our guests whether they crave fun in the sun or relaxation under a palm tree.”
This grand opening marked the completion of Phase 1 of the Celebration Key project. Phase 2, a pier extension that will accommodate more ships, is also underway.
Switching gears to tradition–Holland America Line is bringing back popular behind-the-scenes ship tours. These tours offer guests an inside look at places and spaces generally only for officers and crew.
Some of the spaces include the bridge, galley, engine room, recycling center, main laundry, World Stage dressing rooms, storerooms, and more. Guests will also be able to meet some of the crew, including senior officers, that make the ship run so smoothly.
“We hear so often from guests who’d love to see the bridge or where our chefs prepare their meals. By bringing back this tour experience we’re pulling back the curtain to these areas that are rarely visited,” said Carole Biencourt, Holland America Line’s vice president of onboard revenue. “We’re giving guests a rare opportunity to see what makes our operation so unique. It’s a fascinating look at the inner workings of a cruise ship, and guests love meeting the crew members who work behind the scenes to create such a memorable experience.”
Behind-the-scenes tours are available to book on board at Guest Services fleetwide by the end of July. Booked guests will receive a ship-specific lanyard, souvenir photo and commemorative certificate.
