Legend of the Seas Reaches Major Milestone

Royal Caribbean’s newest vessel, Legend of the Seas, has touched water for the first time. On August 29, 2025, the Icon-class ship reached a major milestone when she was floated out from its dry dock at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

The float out is a major step in the construction process that is accomplished by filling the dock with over 90 million gallons of water once the major exterior work has been completed. Next, workers will begin completing her interior and final details. The outfitting phase includes installing staterooms, restaurants, theaters, technical systems, and so many more details before Legend of the Seas can begin her sea trials.

Legend of the Seas continues the state-of-the-art Icon Class, which allows the Finnish maritime industry to showcase its unique expertise at its best. “The shipyard, Royal Caribbean, and an extensive network of partners work together to develop the processes and concepts from ship to ship. Alongside its sister ships, Legend of the Seas will also mark an important milestone in increasingly responsible shipbuilding.” said Casimir Lindholm, C.E.O. of Meyer Turku.

The cruise line’s third Icon-class ship will join her sisters, Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, in less than a year. Legend of the Seas is scheduled to sail her inaugural voyage in the Western Mediterranean on August 2, 2026. This will be the first time an Icon-class ship will offer itineraries in this region.

Legend of the Seas will spend her summer season in Europe. On October 25, 2026, she will sail a 13-night transatlantic repositioning cruise to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From Port Everglades, she will offer 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean itineraries. She will then alternate between Barcelona and Fort Lauderdale for her summer and winter seasons.

Now that Legend of the Seas is out of dry dock, Meyer Turku can lay the keel and begin construction on a fourth, still-unnamed, Icon-class ship to be delivered in 2027.
