Holland America Line has partnered with the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) and is inviting cruisers to name a rescued orphaned moose calf. In its shore excursions and Cruisetours, Holland America Line offers its guests opportunities to view Alaska wildlife and now they are being offered the chance to help name AWCC’s latest rescue.
The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education and research. It provides injured and orphaned animals spacious enclosures, and quality care and most become permanent residents.
Fans will find a post designated to submitting name suggestions on Holland America Line’s official Facebook and Instagram pages. Names for the orphaned moose calf can be suggested until June 23, 2024, when the top ten will be selected by Holland America Line and AWCC representatives. The top ten names will be posted on the cruise line’s Facebook and Instagram pages and fans can then vote for their favorite. The moose calf will receive its name in early July.
“Holland America Line has been exploring Alaska longer than any other cruise line and we are deeply committed to supporting AWCC in its conservation efforts to protect Alaska’s wildlife,” said Kacy Cole, chief marketing officer for Holland America Line. “Our guests take an Alaska cruise to see wildlife in the region, and moose are part of ‘Alaska’s Big Five.’ We are excited to give our fans the opportunity to participate with the Alaska community in a fun and meaningful way.”
Holland America Line and AWCC are also teaming up to preserve and protect Alaska’s wildlife. Guests whose Holland America Line Alaska itinerary includes Anchorage or Whittier will have the opportunity to enjoy a moose encounter at AWCC during two shore excursions this summer. Cruisers can get up close and personal with the resident moose when they feed it out of their hand while being educated on its diet and behaviors.
“We are grateful to partners like Holland America Line that help AWCC continue the work we do to protect and preserve Alaska’s wildlife,” said Sarah “Howie” Howard, executive director of Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. “Most orphan animals that come into our facility are given a name to help foster a bond not only with our staff, but with our visitors as well. We can’t wait to see what name is chosen by Holland America Line’s fans.”
