Disney Cruise Line Reveals New Look for Mickey and Minnie Mouse

Disney Cruise Line has revealed new looks for Mickey and Minnie Mouse to reflect the cruise line’s newest island destination, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Disney Lookout Cay is located on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas and opens later this year in Summer 2024.

Mickey and Minnie’s new outfits have been designed by Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett. Theodore’s creations have been worn by Miss Universe contestants, Miss World contestants, celebrities, brides, government officials, cover girls and now Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Mickey and Minnie’s new look has been created with a Bahamian flair inspired by the country’s signature festival, Junkanoo. Junkanoo is a joyful celebration that takes place in December and boasts of joyous music, bright and vibrant colors, and parades.

Elyett grew up in Nassau, The Bahamas. His mother owned her own sewing factory where Elyett first began making dresses at an early age. His dresses first hit the runway in 1998–he was 13–the same year Disney Cruise Line set sail.

In June 2024, guests will find Theodore’s work on a new runway–”a celebration of Bahamian culture straight from the eyes of the country’s artists.” Mickey and Minnie will be at Lighthouse Cay greeting guests, taking pictures and signing autographs in the midst of a collection of art by local creators.

“The beauty of Mickey and Minnie’s looks are that they are literally ‘Junkanoo Fun in the Sun,’Theodore said. “When you talk about the print, pattern, color, texture of Junkanoo, they’ve got that.”

Mickey and Minnie Mouse love their Junkanoo in the sun so much they have asked Theodore to design for Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale as well. Theodore said, “I thought this was the end of the road, but the work is just getting started. And safe to say, I’m absolutely excited for the road ahead.”
