Disney Cruise Line has announced Academy Award-winning actor Robert Downey, Jr. will be the godparent for the cruise line’s newest and largest ship, Disney Adventure. The announcement comes just ahead of the ship’s maiden voyage, which will embark on March 10, 2025, from its homeport in Singapore.
“Our new ship continues Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honored that Robert Downey Jr., who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories, is the official godparent for the Disney Adventure,” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Experiences and incoming Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company.
Downey portrayed Tony Stark or Iron Man for more than a decade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the highest-grossing films of all time. The journey culminated with Avengers: Endgame, which brought in more than $2.79 billion globally. In 2019, Downey was declared an official Disney Legend and will switch to a villian when he portrays Doctor Doom in Marvel Studios’ newest film, Avengers: Doomsday, which releases in December.
“It’s impossible to describe the majesty of the Adventure, and to be its godparent is an honor. As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gargantuan blessing must be bestowed … I’ll do my darndest,” Downey said.
While Robert Downey, Jr. brought life to Iron Man for more than a decade, Disney Adventure will bring more than a century of classic Disney storytelling to life. She will feature seven themed areas beginning with the first-ever Marvel Landing on the top decks. Guests can experience “the ultimate Super Hero adventure” on the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship and the longest roller coaster at sea, Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run, Pym Quantum Racers inspired by Ant-Man and the Wasp and Groot Galaxy Spin based on Guardians of the Galaxy. The live stage production “Avengers Assemble!” Marvel Super Heroes and Villains will battle in the open-air Disney Imagination Garden and showcase “jaw-dropping stunts and special effects.”
Disney Adventure will sail her maiden voyage, a 3-night roundtrip voyage, from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore on March 10, 2026. She will then begin sailing 3- to 4-night “cruises to nowhere” for at least five years according to the cruise line’s agreement with the Singapore Tourism Board.
