As the countdown to America’s 250th Anniversary continues, Cunard has revealed Queen Mary 2 will “take center stage” in New York Harbor on July 4, 2026. She will take part in the official event, Sail4th 250, marking 250 years since American Independence. The cruise line announced Queen Mary 2 will “play a key role as host to NBC national TV coverage” giving viewers a front row seat to the largest maritime event in decades.
The International Parade of Sail will include more than 50 Class A and Class B tall ships from 30 nations as well as a fleet of allied and US Navy ships. Guests onboard Queen Mary 2 will have a front row seat as the more than 100 ships sail through the harbor from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, past the Statue of Liberty and up the Hudson River.
Liz Fettes, SVP, Commercial, North America & Australasia of Cunard, said, “Given Cunard’s longstanding history bringing travelers through New York Harbor, we’re incredibly proud that Queen Mary 2 will be part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. This will be a truly memorable historical moment, and there’s no better way to experience it than on board our iconic ocean liner. Our guests can look forward to a unique celebration at sea, surrounded by unforgettable views, special events and a luxurious Cunard experience.”
Guests can expect to enjoy a specially curated day of onboard entertainment. Performances include US comedian John Joseph, and classical crossover trio Vox Fortura. Also featured will be maritime historian “Mr. Ocean Liner” Bill Miller, and art historian Dr. Seth Gopin.
Queen Mary 2 will embark on her 7-night round-trip Independence Day Celebration voyage from New York on July 3, 2026, taking part in the International Parade of Sail on July 4, 2026. That evening, she will turn in New York Harbor allowing guests the best view of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. Before returning to New York, she will call on Newport, Rhode Island, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Chris O’Brien, President of Sail4th 250, said, “With Queen Mary 2 positioned alongside the Parade of Sail, this historic event now has the sense of prestige and international collaboration that we hoped for from the beginning. Her presence will be a powerful symbol of transatlantic unity and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone watching from the harbor or on board.”
Sail4th250 is a six-day event expected to draw more than eight million spectators to New York and New Jersey waterfronts. Spectators will be able to view an International Naval Review, a performance by the US Navy’s Blue Angels, and of course, the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, which will also be broadcast nationally.
