Cruise Ship Monday–Royal Caribbean Quantum and Quantum Ultra-Class

It’s Cruise Ship Monday!

Today brings us Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum and Quantum Ultra-class–Quantum of the Seas (2014), Anthem of the Seas (2015), Ovation of the Seas (2016), Spectrum of the Seas (2019) and Odyssey of the Seas (2021).

There are three ships in the Quantum-Class–Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas–and two ships in the Quantum Ultra-Class–Spectrum of the Seas and Odyssey of the Seas.

This class of ships was unveiled in 2014 and has been described as Royal Caribbean’s most innovative class ever. The vessels are filled with “revolutionary thrills and tech-inspired discoveries.” They were also designed to sail in warm and cold climates, meaning they can sail itineraries around the world.

The Quantum and Quantum Ultra-Class ships feature SeaPlex, an indoor sports venue. Passengers can take part in exercise classes, pickleball, soccer, volleyball or roller skating at the SeaPlex. However, one of the most popular activities at this venue are the very popular bumper cars!

The ships feature the “North Star” observation capsule which is a glass enclosed capsule that will take guests 300 feet above sea level providing an amazing 360 view of the surroundings. It also happens to hold the Guinness World Record for the tallest viewing deck on a cruise ship! Passengers will also find RipCord by iFLY skydiving simulators on the Quantum and Quantum Ultra-Class ships.

These vessels have an outdoor pool, indoor pool, kids splash zone and an adults-only Solarium. Since these ships were designed to sail in all weather conditions, the indoor pool has a retractable roof and is climate controlled.

Quantum Class ships also feature two primary entertainment venues–the Royal Theater and Two70. Two70 is a multilevel entertainment space with floor-to-ceiling glass walls which span 270 degrees. Additionally, Two70 uses technology in all its showstopping performances.

Quantum Class ships are the first class of ships offering a Virtual Balcony. Passengers can book an interior room with a floor-to-ceiling television that offers real time viewing of the sea. Quantum Class ships also feature the Bionic Bar where robot bartenders mix your drinks.

The Quantum Class ships are among the largest ships at sea. They can carry up to 4,905 passengers if every berth is occupied. Spectrum of the Seas, which was specifically built for the China market, can carry up to 5,622 passengers and Odyssey of the Seas can carry up to 5,498 passengers.

Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas are currently offering 7-day roundtrip Alaska Adventure Cruises from Seattle. In October, Quantum of the Seas will reposition to Los Angeles, and Anthem of the Seas will reposition to Australia.

Ovation of the Seas is offering various itineraries out of Los Angeles, and will reposition to Port Singapore in September to begin offering itineraries throughout Asia. Spectrum of the Seas homeports from either Shanghai or Hong Kong year round, offering itineraries throughout Asia.

Lastly, Odyssey of the Seas is currently homeporting from Civitavecchia-Rome, Italy and sailing 7-day Greek Isles Cruises. She will reposition to Cape Liberty Bayonne, New Jersey in November and begin sailing a series of Caribbean cruises most of which that will visit Perfect Day.
