It’s Monday!
Cruise Ship Monday
Today brings us Norwegian Cruise Line’s Prima class–Norwegian Prima (2022), and Norwegian Viva (2023), and Prima Plus class–Norwegian Aqua (2025), and Norwegian Luna (2026).
Norwegian Cruise Line introduced its Prima Class with Norwegian Prima in 2022 and Norwegian Viva in 2023. These ships are smaller than the ships in the older Breakaway Plus class, meaning they have access to smaller ports all around the world, while still packing in all the over-the-top amenities like the largest go-kart tracks at sea and a 10-story dry slide.
Norwegian Cruise Line introduced its Prima Plus Class with the debut of Norwegian Aqua in 2025. These ships are about 10% larger than the Prima Class, but are still not the largest ships in the NCL fleet–that still belongs to the Breakaway Plus class.
Both classes of ships offer a three-deck theater that converts into a Las Vegas-style nightclub. They have the largest variety of suit categories, the largest three-bedroom suites, and the cruise line’s largest inside, ocean-view and balcony cabins. They also offer more outdoor deck space and have a higher ratio of space to passengers.
Upon their debut, the Prima class ships offered the largest Haven area–the cruise line’s ship-within-a-ship concept–spanning eight decks and offering 107 suits. The Haven houses its own lounge areas, pool area, and private restaurant. Norwegian Aqua’s Haven is even larger with 123 suites which include the cruise line’s first three-bedroom duplex suites.
Norwegian Aqua debuted with the first-at-sea Aqua Slidecoaster. The hybrid waterslide and rollercoaster is three stories high and features dual slides where guests are propelled through two different courses that twist around the ship’s funnel. The ship also features a new digital sports complex called Glow Court which transforms into a nightclub in the evening.
The next Prima Plus class of ship, Norwegian Luna, will debut this year, with two more still to be named ships coming in 2027 and 2028.
