Cruise Ship Monday
Today brings us Norwegian Cruise Line’s Leo-class which only has one ship–Norwegian Spirit (1998).
Norwegian Spirit was built in 1998 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. She was originally built for Star Cruises as SuperStar Leo. In 2004, Norwegian Cruise Line acquired SuperStar Leo and renamed her Norwegian Spirit. She is NCL’s oldest, smallest, and only Leo-class ship.
Just before the pandemic, Norwegian Spirit received a bow-to-stern refurbishment–essentially a brand-new ship. She received 14 new venues, additional and reimagined staterooms, enhanced public areas as well as new art on her hull.
Norwegian Spirit showcases luxurious suites, balcony staterooms, oceanview staterooms, and inside staterooms that can house around 2,000 passengers. She has two outdoor pools, a spa, a casino as well as multiple dining venues and entertainment choices.
Norwegian Spirit’s complimentary dining includes two main dining rooms whose menus change daily, a buffet, and several cafés, grills and “on-the-go” options. Guests looking for a unique culinary offering will find multiple specialty dining choices on board. Choices include a sushi bar, an Asian Fusion venue, Italian fare at Onda by Scarpetta, the Atrium Café, Cagney’s Steakhouse, French fare at Le Bistro, and Japanese fare at Teppanyaki.
The ship’s multiple bars and lounges include Spice H2O, an adult-only venue; a morning and late-night coffee bar at the Atrium Café; the casual outdoor Beir Garten; the poolside Waves Pool Bar; Henry’s Pub, a traditional English pub; Spinnaker Lounge featuring panoramic views; and The Local which offers a casual place to relax and enjoy classic complimentary pub fare.
Norwegian Spirit offers award-winning entertainment and activities. The 807-seat Stardust Theater is home to Blazing Boots, which features pop country music from some of the genre’s biggest stars. Guests can also take in Element, the music and magic show based on the four elements. Guests will enjoy the fusion of American Idol, the American Music Awards, and Dancing with the Stars in IGNITE THE NIGHT. Various venues throughout the ship showcase live music performances. Guests who enjoy comedy will want to catch the two comedians at the Social Comedy and Night Club before they hit the dance floor. Guests can also test the fates in the Spirit Casino.
Norwegian Spirit offers voyages in Asia, Australia & New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska as well as Extraordinary Journeys. She is currently sailing a 15-day itinerary from Keelung to Singapore.
