Norwegian Luna Officially Christened Before Setting Sail on Celebratory Cruise

Norwegian Luna was officially christened on March 27, 2026, inside Norwegian Cruise Line’s LEED Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami. She was christened by her Godmother ELLE, the artist who designed the ship’s hull artwork as well as a vivid dreamscape titled ‘La Luna.’ ELLE bestowed safe passage and good fortune on the ship just before the traditional smashing of a bottle of champagne against Norwegian Luna’s hull.

“Today’s christening of Norwegian Luna marks an important milestone for our Company and a moment of great pride for our entire team,” said John W. Chidsey, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “As she prepares for this special voyage, I look forward to the remarkable experiences she will deliver and to the exciting future ahead for our brand and our guests.”

The cruise line took delivery of the 3,565-passenger ship from the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy in early March. She welcomed her first guests in Europe for a transatlantic voyage to PortMiami. Norwegian Luna is the 21st ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, the second Prima Plus Class ship, and sister ship of Norwegian Aqua.

Speaking at the christening ceremony, Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, said, ”Norwegian Luna represents the evolution of NCL — a brand built on freedom, flexibility and delivering experiences that resonate with every type of traveler. Curated to deliver attractions for families with the NCL-exclusive Aqua Slidecoaster, and the all-new Moon Climber and Luna Midway activities; as well as adult-only experiences like the late-night production of ‘LunaTique,’ Norwegian Luna is the perfect ship for multigenerational travelers looking for a warm vacation in the tropics. With itineraries designed to bring guests to Great Stirrup Cay, our private island in the Bahamas, they will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the highly anticipated offerings that our guests are raving about.”

Norwegian Luna departed on her celebratory christening cruise shortly after the ceremony with various executives, journalists, brand partners, and La Lido Loca’s own Tony and Jenny B on board. The sailing will visit the cruise line’s private destination in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay, which has recently debuted several enhancements.
