Cruise Ship Monday–Princess Cruises’ Royal-Class

It’s Monday!

Cruise Ship Monday

Today brings us Princess Cruises’ Royal-class–Discovery Princess (2022), Enchanted Princess (2020), Sky Princess (2019), Majestic Princess (2017), Regal Princess (2014) and Royal Princess (2013).

Princess Cruises’ Royal-class debuted in 2013 with Royal Princess. The vessel was christened by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton–now known as Catherine, Princess of Wales. However, the name of the Royal-class series came through the line of the first Royal Princess which debuted in 1984 and was christened by Diana, Princess of Wales.

On there debut, the Royal-class vessels were the largest in the fleet, with a passenger capacity of 3,600 at double occupancy, until the introduction of the Sphere-class. The Royal-class brought many firsts for the cruise line including Medallion devices and new restaurants. In addition to all the things Princess is known for, the Royal-class ships offer more lounge space, more restaurants, more bars, more suites, and more entertainment.

One feature that debuted on the Royal-class ships is the SeaWalk. Guests can take a walk on a glass floor that extends 28 feet over the edge of the vessel and offers an amazing view of the ocean below.

Not only do the Royal-class ships offer the traditional specialty restaurants like Crown Grill and Sabatini’s, but they also feature a specialty pizzeria, Slice, and Salty Dog Grill which serves gourmet hot dogs and street tacos. However, there are some differences among the vessels in the class.

Enchanted Princess and Discovery Princess have the same dining venues which includes the SaltyDog Gastropub, the 360 Mediterranean dining experience, and O’Malley’s Irish Pub. Royal Princess and Regal Princess have the same dining venues except the Caymus & Silverado wine dinner experience is only available on Royal Princess. Additionally, Royal Princess does not offer the upgraded Chef’s Table Lumiere as is offered on the other Royal-class ships, and neither Royal Princess nor Regal Princess offers The Catch by Rudy.

The Royal-class ships all offer the cruise line’s traditional grand atrium, multiple dining rooms and Movies Under the Stars. Guests will also find The Enclave, a Lotus Spa experience featuring the cruise line’s largest thermal suite and hydrotherapy pool, a Turkish-style steam room as well as aromatherapy and steam chambers.

The Royal-class ships also offer expanded room categories which includes deluxe balconies. The deluxe balconies offer extra space, a sofa bed and a larger balcony. Additionally, guests can enjoy MedallionNet, the ultrafast WiFi service that is now available throughout the fleet.
