Hurricane Melissa shut down cruising in Jamaica when she made landfall in late October 2025, BUT the last of the three main cruise ports, the Port of Falmouth, finally reopened on December 2, 2025. Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess was the first cruise ship to call on the port since the devastating hurricane made landfall. Ocho Rios and Montego Bay both reopened in November, meaning cruising is back full force in the island country.
The Port Authority of Jamaica celebrated the reopening of the port with this social media post: “Today marks the restart of cruise shipping operations at the Historic Falmouth Port!
We are proud to welcome the Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess, the first cruise ship to call at the port since reopening following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
This restart supports renewed activity across the Falmouth community, stimulating business opportunities for local merchants, transport operators, and service providers. The Port Authority of Jamaica remains committed to strengthening the communities in which we operate and contributing meaningfully to local livelihoods as we return to normalcy and advance ongoing rebuilding efforts.
We look forward to a productive day as cruise shipping activity resumes at the Historic Falmouth Port.”
The reopening of the Falmouth port means ships from Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International, and Disney Cruise Line will be able to visit in the coming days and weeks, bringing tourism back to the area and supporting the local economy.
The reopening of each port is a result of the hard work and dedication of the Ministry of Tourism, as well as Jamaica Vacations (JAMVAC), Jamaica Cruising, the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), the Destination Assurance Councils (DACs), municipal corporations, emergency teams, and dozens of supporting partners.
Officials commented, “Every sector put hands on deck and hearts into the mission, ensuring that Jamaica could welcome visitors again in record time after the passing of Hurricane Melissa. Though work continues to fully restore all attractions and further refine the visitor experience, the foundation is firm, and the momentum is undeniable.”
The reopening of all cruise ports in such a timely fashion is an obvious indicator that when everyone works together, everyone wins!
