Pickleball has become a very popular sport for so many. If you have not heard of it, you will, especially if you visit RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. Not only is Holland America Line the first and only cruise line partner of the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) which features pickleball courts on the top deck of all its ships, the cruise line has now announced that four pickleball courts have been opened on its private island in the Bahamas. Guests from both Rotterdam and Eurodam took part in a pickleball tournament on December 6, 2025 after the official ribbon-cutting ceremony which was attended by the captains of both ships.
“Pickleball has become one of our most popular activities across the fleet, so adding courts to our private island lets guests enjoy the game in one of the most stunning settings imaginable,” said Michael Smith, senior vice president of guest experience and product development for Holland America Line. “All of the enhancements build on what makes the island so special, creating even more ways for guests to relax and enjoy their day. We’re continuing to elevate the Relax Away, Half Moon Cay experience while preserving its uncrowded beaches and unspoiled charm.”
The pickleball courts are located in the sports area where guests can also find basketball, volleyball and soccer courts. Other activities in the area include tai-chi and other family-friendly activities like beach ball relays, scavenger hunts and sandcastle contests.
Along with the pickleball courts, the island’s cabanas and daybeds have been refreshed, extra beach chairs have been added, and new clamshell loungers are on the way. Relax Away, Half Moon Cay’s private cabanas have been renovated with new umbrellas, beach loungers, fresh paint and decking.
RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay is a port stop on almost every Holland America Line Caribbean cruise. The private island is owned by Carnival Corporation meaning many Carnival Cruise Line ships also visit the destination. Additionally, a pier is being constructed on the north side allowing Carnival’s Excel class ships to visit the island for the first time.
