Global Ports Holding Hosts Coastal Cleanup Day

To celebrate International Coastal Cleanup Day, Global Ports Holding, the world’s largest cruise port operator, brought together more than 250 volunteers for a worldwide cleanup across its network of cruise ports entitled “From Every Port, For Every Coast.” The cleanup was designed to protect the marine life and oceans.

The initiative brought together communities, stakeholders and cruise line partners who volunteered more than 20 hours to gather more than a ton of waste from the shorelines, beaches and coastal areas. Not only did volunteers remove trash in an effort to protect the marine environment, but they also gathered information needed for research on marine pollution.

“As the gateway between sea and shore, our ports are uniquely positioned to lead initiatives on sustainability,” said Stephen Xuereb, COO Global Ports Holding. “With “From Every Port, For Every Coast”, we brought together colleagues, partners, and local communities to take meaningful action. This initiative shows what can be achieved when our teams and local stakeholders work together to protect the coastlines which ultimately we depend on. It demonstrates the shared responsibility we all have for cleaner oceans.”

The company’s sustainability strategy is three-fold and includes “minimizing environmental impact, empowering local communities, and advancing responsible growth.” Global Ports Holding added that it looks to demonstrate sustainability by reducing emissions and energy use at its ports as well as support coastal protection projects and community-driven initiatives.

Global Ports Holding was established in 2004 as the world’s largest independent cruise port operator and now owns and operates cruise ports throughout the world. Its network of cruise ports serves cruise liners, ferries, yachts and mega-yachts. They operate 33 cruise ports in 21 countries and provide services to more than 22 million passengers annually.
